Right On Time

By now, you all know I love to play softball. The idea of getting together with friends and winning or losing a game gets me excited. these teammates are like family when we play. I can almost hear the cheering and feel the high five as I walk into the dugout.

I am the mom of the team. Since I’m at least 20 years older than the rest of my team mates, I make sure we have cold water to drink when the game is over. It’s a way I can contribute to the comerodery of the team.

This particular day, I had just grabbed ice for the water bottles, grabbed gas and was on the freeway. I had plenty of time. It took me at the most 45 minutes most games but the location was a little closer to me than normal. I had planned an hour drive time to make sure I got there and was ready for the game. What I didn’t know, was that there was an accident on the freeway and the traffic was backed up from my little town all the way to 14600 South. I wasn’t too concerned because I had left 15 minutes early and google maps assured me that I was still going to be 15 minutes early.

As I sat on the freeway, in practically a parking lot, my early time started to disappear. Now I had 10 minutes, then 5. Now I was going to get there right on time. I’ve realized that I won’t have time to practice, warm up, etc. That’s ok. I’ll still get to play.

That didn’t last long. I could see I was going to be 5 minutes late, and now 10. Lord, could you please just help me get there safely so I can play? I realize I’m going to miss part of the game but I could really use this tonight.

Praying prayers and asking for simple things I guess has become a habit. I didn’t want to abuse the ask for a miracle to get there on time to play. I could see clearly that was out of the question, but I knew as per many times before, that He is a God of miracles and could get me there safe.

I finally made it to the park and jumped out of my car. The team was in the dugout so I quickly put my cleats on and hung my bag up.

Then, the next thing I heard was: ‘Jennie, you’re up to bat’. I couldn’t believe it. I was 10 minutes late, but my team was working through the batting order and in essence, I had showed up just in time. Not even a little late. It’s amazing to me that what He gives me is always bigger and better than what I expected, and I’m always surprised!

Friends, He knows us. Every detail of our lives. He loves to bless us in these simple ways. It helps us to be able to trust Him and rely on Him through the difficult experiences when He has a bigger plan than us and needs us to just hold on as we wait on Him.
