A Miracle in Prayer
A lady in her late 40’s joined our congregation last year. She was homeless at the time missionaries found her, having left her home on the East Coast and driven to the Mountain West to rent a place that turned out to be rental fraud. Eventually she got rental assistance from the government and lived in our area for 9 months.
That changed however when an apartment maintenance worker discovered that her puppy had been mauling the corners of all the walls in her apartment. She got evicted. It was late September and she was looking at living in her car until she found a new place.
I had a spare bedroom and winter was coming, but I was concerned that no one would rent to her as soon as they found out about her destructive dog and that my invitation would become indefinite. Nevertheless, we invited her to stay for a week and kept her dog outside.
She was immediately rejected by one complex. She then applied for a much nicer complex. I was waiting for her second rejection to talk to her about looking for more humble digs if she wanted a chance to get in.
The night before the rejection I expected was to come, I said, “Let’s have an evening prayer together. Would you pray tonight?” she agreed. It was just her and I. She is a simple woman, slightly slow, childlike in some ways, but when she prayed, Heaven leaned forward to listen. It felt as if God stopped everything to hear her out. She spoke plainly explaining her situation and her needs. The room felt full of the Holy Spirit and I thought to myself, ”No one could resist a prayer like that.”
Sure enough, the next day, she was approved at the fancy complex. I ended up feeling that her 3-4 week stay was a gift God had given me and not the other way around. For me that prayer is a cherished moment, not to be forgotten, a reminder of how close our relationship with Diety can be, and how much pleasure He takes in assisting us.
