    A Miracle in Prayer

A lady in her late 40’s joined our congregation last year. She was homeless at the time missionaries found her, having left her home on the East Coast and driven to the Mountain West to rent a place that turned out to be rental fraud. Eventually she got rental assistance from the government and lived in our area for 9 months. That changed however when an apartment maintenance worker discovered that her puppy had been mauling the corners of all the walls in her apartment. She got evicted. It was late September and she was looking at living in her car until she found a new place. I had a…

    Safely Home Through A Blizzard

One winter night, about 30 years ago, I was coming back from Logan to Brigham in a snowstorm, with my brother driving the truck getting ready to head through the canyon. I remember feeling this foreboding feeling like something bad was going to happen. My brother was driving very fast, just wanting to get home. I asked him if he could slow down. He agreed but then kept up the same speed. I could see on my right, a fence and an icy lake. If we slid, I worried we would might go right in the lake. At this point, I really didn’t know what else to do. It was…

    Level Up

Congratulations!  You unlocked a small miracle!  That’s what I think when I notice something small that I could claim as my own doing, but I’ve learned the power of recognizing God in my life. I remember once, riding home from Canada with a friend.  I was sleeping in the passenger seat and he was driving.  Somehow I woke up just in time to say something, waking him up enough to get back on the road. Or, what about the time I was feeling so sad and lonely, walking into a store and this man who was loading his car stopped, turned around, and said happy Pioneer Day.  That completely changed…

    A Miracle through our Struggles

I do know that God is in the details of my life. I have seen Him in the form of mortal angels, heard Him in the form of an uplifting phone call, felt Him in the comforting whispers of the still small voice, understood Him in the prompts for guidance. Some many years ago we had the effects of a change in the economy that had a devastating effect on our family. My business was in the real estate world. Interest rates soared to the mid teens and made it very difficult to sell the homes we were building. It shut our business down. We were faced with where we…

    Hope on a Deserted Road

My mother, grandmother and my mom’s sisters are really close. There wasn’t a month that went by that my mom and us kids would drive two hours away to see her ~ except the winters when the roads were too dangerous to travel because of the snow. When we would travel there were two different roads we could take. The main road which took us two hours, and the not so traveled scenic road that only took an hour and a half. Many times we would take the scenic route if the weather was good because it was quicker. This one day sometime in November, we were on our way…

    What is a miracle?

According to the Websters Dictionary, a miracle is defined as an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs, or an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment. There are BIG miracles, when we can see the divine intervention of God in more of an obvious in your face circumstance, but can we have smaller miracles.  Some miracles take place quietly, such as when a person gains a testimony of God’s truth, experiences a mighty change of heart, obtains forgiveness from the Lord, or is blessed with peace and strength during a difficult time.  We might see the divine fingerprints of God as he helps us through situations, shares…

    The Big Hope Letters Project

Hi! What’s going on in your life? For me, a lot of work, a little of playing ball with friends, time with my family, and lots of chocolate! I’ve got a lot of things going on in my life. Sometimes I think maybe too much. I feel overstimulated with news/politics/STUFF TO DO in addition to living life. I’ve realized it is comforting to let go of all the things around me and just find Jesus. I know he’s a part of my life if I invite him in and when I do, Boy! Life really does become much more simple. I can relax knowing he always knows the outcome and…

    Miracles in the Details

A year ago, on assignment in the state of California, I went with a stake president to visit with Clark and Holly Fales and their family in their home.  I was told they recently had experienced a miracle.  Upon their arrival, Clark struggled to stand and greet us as he was wearing a back brace, a neck bace, and braces on his arms. Just over two months prior Clark, his son Ty, and about 30 other young men and leaders set out on a stake high-advnture activity, hiking to the 1,180-foot (4,322m) summit of Mount Shasta, one of the highest peaks of California.  On the second day of the arduous…

    Believe in Miracles

While on assignment for the Church magazines in Taiwan, I was traveling with an interpreter and a driver.  Though I still had hours of work to do, my interpreter needed to leave me alone with the driver, who didn’t speak any English.  There was no way I could finish my work without being able to communicate with the driver.  As they discussed options, my interpreter began to laugh.  He explained that the driver spoke Spanish, which he knew I had learned on my mission.  The driver and I had a great time together, and I finished my work without any problem. This was no dramatic healing or moving of a…
